Z ogromnym smutkiem i żalem przyjęliśmy wiadomość o śmierci Caryl Oliver, Prezydent European Veterans Fencing (EVF).
Odeszła osoba wyjątkowa – pełna pasji, zaangażowania i bezgranicznej miłości do szermierki. Caryl poświęciła wiele lat rozwojowi europejskiej szermierki weteranów, współtworząc środowisko, które dziś łączy zawodników z całej Europy i pozwala im realizować wspólną sportową pasję.
Spoczywaj w pokoju, Caryl.
Na zawsze pozostaniesz częścią naszej szermierczej rodziny.
English version🇬🇧
It is with profound sadness and sorrow that we have learned of the passing of Caryl Oliver, President of the European Veterans Fencing (EVF).
We have lost an extraordinary person – someone filled with passion, dedication, and an unconditional love for fencing. Caryl devoted many years to the development of European veterans fencing, helping to build a community that today brings together fencers from across Europe and allows them to pursue their shared sporting passion. The European veterans fencing movement as we know it today owes so much to her vision, commitment, and tireless efforts. We are truly indebted to her.
Yet Caryl was so much more than the President of the EVF. She was a wonderful, warm-hearted, kind, and understanding person, and above all, our friend, with whom we had shared many years of friendship, fencing experiences, and mutual respect. Her presence, openness, and the heart she put into everything she did will remain in our memories forever.
We know that in recent times, Caryl had been battling an illness that gradually took its toll on her strength and limited her ability to be as actively involved in the veterans fencing community as she would undoubtedly have wished. Despite these difficulties, her contribution, dedication, and many years of work for our fencing community remain invaluable.
Today, the European fencing family has suffered a tremendous loss. We are saying goodbye not only to an outstanding leader, but above all to someone dear to us, whose place can never be filled.
During these incredibly difficult moments, our thoughts and hearts are with Caryl’s family, her loved ones, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her and working alongside her.
Caryl, thank you for everything you did for fencing, for your friendship, your kindness, and the heart you gave to our community. Your legacy will live on – on the fencing pistes, in future generations of fencers, and in the memories of everyone brought together by this beautiful passion.
Rest in peace, Caryl.
You will forever remain a part of our fencing family.
